This is the 7th day of riding without a day of rest but we really had no comfortable place to escape the heavy rains that started as soon as we broke camp. It was 49 degrees. I sought shelter in the heated bathroom at the rest area for an hour. You can only stay in the bathroom for so long before people think there is something seriously wrong with you.
We set off in the cold rain up the long 6 - 8 percent grades to get over Brownlee Pass. We climbed 2188 ft. It was one of those cimbs where if you added any more layers you would burn up and if you did not, then you got cold.
On arriving in Cambridge I called Bucky's Cafe and Motel that had been listed as a place fo consider staying by the Adventure Cycling Association. I was wet and frozen and (employing the "WWJD" principle that has become so much a part of my life ... thanks. Joy) for $50 it was just what the doctor ordered. As I signed the registration forms, my writing looked like a four year olds writing since my hands were so cold that I could not control them. Okay, no comments about doctors writing.
See the photos of Main street in Cambridge, looking both directions at about 7 PM. We considered setting up our tent in the middle of the street. Try doing that anywhere in the Rochester area.
It was actually a nice little peaceful town and we enjoyed our dinner at Mrs. G's Ranch House. Very economically priced for those looking for a lot of nutrients to help restore depleted glycogen reserves.
