5/22/13 Day 8 rest day McKenzie Bridge

This has been a day of rest and getting gear dried out, soggy maps dried and put back together, paper work and  trying to get caught up on this blog.

There is more rain and snow in the forecast but one cannot stay put forever with marginal conditions.

Thr inn where we are staying is at 1200 ft anf snow was predicted for just above 3000 ft.

The  concern is about injury on either the  ascent to or the descent from the top of the 5300 ft Mckenzie Pass with snow accumulation expected above 3000 ft level on this road that is still closed to vehicular traffic.  It remains open to bicycles.

The type of snow will make a significant difference as well regarding traction.  Our tires are just 700 x 32 mm touring tires.  I am not concerned with hypothermia with just the 45 mi ride in the cold rain, but injury would clearly change the picture with temps dropping  to 32 - 34 deg at night .

When the morning comes we will have to reassess the wisdom of venturing out.  Your prayers are very much appreciated.

Charlie had not wanted to break the routine of camping but I reminded him of the WWJD and Joy's "Chuck, don't do anything stupid" principle.  He at least softened up a little and came in out of the cold and rain but stayed in the sleeping bag as a matter of principle.  I suggested that he may also want set up the tent on the bed at least for a picture but could not convince him of that.
