6/6/13 Thur Day 23 8.7 mi S of Jackson, MT to Twin Bridges, MT 67 mi

We were up at 6:15 AM for another cold start but it warmed quickly as the sun came up.  Peeled off the wind stopper and leg warmers as I started to quickly heat up on the approximately 2000 ft climb over Big Hole Pass at a grade varying between 5.7 and 7.3 %.  This was another "put it in low and go" climb.

We met Trevor and his son, Sam,  who started the TrsnsAm back around 4/10/13.  Trevor, is now age 63 and now retired from (can you guess from where by the picture?) ...Exxon Mobil.  ( My dad was a CPA for them most of his career.)  They are both into rugby.

We continued on to Twin Bridges, MT where the merchants of this poor town chipped in together to fund this cyclists- only camping area in the hope that those on the TransAm route would stop there and contribute to the local economy.  It worked in our case.

It was about 85 degrees.   It was not bad while riding, but when stopped, the sun was a real scorcher.  A few mosquitoes were just starting to make their appearance.

I was starting to feel weak and lightheaded so we went to The Shack where I got a milkshake (my apologies to my cardiologist) and chicken tenders and lots of potatoes and lots of ice water...  Problem solved.

Also at the Twin Bridges Bike Camp we met with a pleasant, down on her luck, homeless lady, Vanessa.  Formerly a graphic artist in the pre-computer age and then working jobs at places such as Taco Bell.  Now 58 and on food stamps she travels all over the Northwest with her camping gear trying to care for medical issued in a holistic way.  God bless her.
